You don’t want to miss the upcoming Voice of Warriors BlogTalk Radio hour on Monday, August 22, 2011, at 7:30 pm. The subject of this interview is a difficult one, but it is one that must be discussed. Gold Star father, Bob Bagosy, will join us as we discuss the topic of military suicide.
On May 10, 2010, Bob’s son, Sgt. Thomas Bagosy, lost his battle with Post Traumatic Stress and took his own life. Bob and his family understand what it means to serve their country. Bob’s father was a combat Marine who served in WW2. His uncle served at that time as well. Bob, himself, served in the Marine Corps from 1966-1972. His son, Tommy followed in his footsteps and enlisted in the Marine Corps in June, 2004. Tommy served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was a member of MARSOC – Marine Special Operations Command.
Join us and listen as Bob shares his story about his family’s service in the Marine Corps, his son’s deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, SEMPER FI moments, how his son’s death has changed his life and that of his family, and how TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) has helped the Bagosy family to cope with Tommy’s death.
Bob Bagosy grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is married with five children and seven grandchildren, and now resides in Atlanta, Georgia. He has a Master of Science Degree in Behavioral Science from Wilmington University in Delaware and a Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University in Philadelphia. Bob is a retired police commander, having worked for the Amtrak Transit Police Department for 28 years. Bob has also served as VP of Corporate Security with JP Morgan Chase. He has held the position of Chief of Police with the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank, and was the Director of Regional Security with CVS-Caremark.

I also lost my son to suicide. Davey took his own life on June16, 2005. He was a soldier stationed at Ft. Hood after returning from a one year deployment to Iraq. TAPS has been instrumental in our family getting through each day. We adopted Daveys son, Tim, last Oct. and he is the joy in our lives. He just returned from another TAPS event (Camp Erin).
I am so sorry for your loss. 32 suicides in the Army in July! My heart breaks for these families. Thank you for telling your story and helping overcome the stigma associated with suicide.
Judi,
I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart is breaking for your family and all of those affected by military suicide. July was an awful month for the Army and suicides. Sometimes I just feel speechless… in disbelief. But, that’s when I remember I have to speak up for these men and women – and that’s what keeps me going. <3
Judi, I will be sure to pass on your comment to Bob Bagosy. I am so sorry to learn that you have also lost a child to this war. I am encouraged to hear that you have also found TAPS. Tim is fortunate to have such a loving family to raise him, and it’s wonderful to know that he can benefit from the TAPS events for children. Thank you so much for sharing your heart.
